Hardscape and drainage want dry, workable ground — roughly late March through early December here. Cut a real bed edge, get mulch to two or three inches rather than piling more on, prune shrubs back to a scale that suits the house, and keep hard surfaces edged and blown clean. Those four things change how a property reads from the road more than buying plants does.
