Under a dense canopy you are fighting two things at once: not enough light and root competition that pulls moisture out of the top few inches. Kentucky bluegrass will not hold there. Fine fescue blends tolerate shade far better and need less water and nitrogen. But there is a threshold — below roughly four hours of filtered light a day, no turf will succeed and the honest answer is a mulched bed with shade plantings.
