Soil and drainage in Berlin
The most common turf problem on till ground is construction compaction rather than soil type. New neighbourhoods routinely end up with two inches of topsoil spread over subsoil that heavy equipment drove on for a year. Grass germinates in that two inches, roots hit the compacted layer, and the lawn needs constant water and never thickens.
