Continental sits in western Putnam County on flat Black Swamp ground, roughly between our shop and Findlay. It is a village surrounded by farm country, with rural residential parcels on the county roads.

Landscaper services in Continental, OH: the ground is dense lake-plain clay that drains very slowly, so drainage and grade come before anything decorative. We work Continental out of our shop at 7980 OH-249 in Hicksville, and the on-site estimate is free.

The soil profile here is essentially identical to what we deal with at home, which means we already know what will and will not work before we arrive.

Getting here: Southeast of Oakwood in western Putnam County.

Black Swamp clay, again

Western Putnam County is the same dense lacustrine clay that defines Paulding and Defiance counties — very slow infiltration and almost no natural fall. Everything we have learned working that ground at home applies directly here. Do not dig planting holes in clay and backfill with good soil; you have built a bathtub the plant will slowly drown in. Amend broad bed areas instead and raise the grade a few inches. Do not install a dry well; there is nowhere for the water to go. Carry water to a real outlet.

Rural drives and mowing scale

Rural parcels here run large, with long drives and open exposure. Mowing an acre-plus weekly is a genuine commitment, and it is the service most rural clients start with before adding cleanups and snow. Machine access is excellent on these properties, so drainage runs, bed renovations and patios cost meaningfully less than the same work in a fenced town lot.

Drifting and winter response

Open farm ground around Continental drifts badly. A drive can be clear at dawn and closed by mid-morning with no new snow. Agreements out here specify return passes rather than a single post-storm push, and we stake drive edges in the fall so crews can clear accurately when the drift buries the pavement line entirely.

Why Continental property owners choose us

  • This is our home ground

Continental sits inside the counties we work every week from Hicksville. That shows up most in winter, when distance decides whose driveway gets cleared first.

  • We fix the water before anything else

Every dollar spent on plants or hardscape sitting on ground that stays wet gets spent twice. On Putnam County soil we diagnose drainage first — and often the honest answer is two downspouts rather than a system.

  • 46 Google reviews, licensed and insured

Verbatim reviews from neighbours across the region, full coverage on every crew and machine, and financing available so a full plan can be built in one season.

  • One contractor for all four seasons

Landscaping April through November and snow and ice through the winter, from the same crews. The people who stake a drive in November are the people who mowed it in July.

Local Questions

Landscaping in Continental: FAQs

Answers written for Putnam County ground, not generic advice from another climate.

The same things drive it here as anywhere in Ohio: access for a machine, how deep the hardscape base has to go, whether drainage has to be solved first, plant size at installation, and how much has to be removed before the new work starts. On Putnam County ground the base depth and the drainage answer are usually what separate two quotes. We give an itemised written number after seeing the property, and the visit is free.
